April Meeting

Kate’s Korner

Block of the Month

February Meeting

Kate’s Block of the Month from Judy Hopkins

March’s meeting was cancelled due to a snow storm.

April’s Block of the Month.  Kate’s on vacation… will let us know.

I am going to be publishing on Google at our old site.  I can not upload anymore files without deleting old ones.  I have never had this problem on Blogspot.  Plus I find it to be more user friendly.  Aprils meeting will be continued over there as there was a few I could not add. Click here to head on over to Canal Country Quilters Blog on Google’s Blogspot.

January 2017

June!  Seriously?  Was that the last time I posted?  Goodness gracious!  I really actually have reasons.  Life.  I know you have reasons like that sometimes too.  Summer is always crazy. vacations, kids being off for summer, running me ragged.  My Dad was then diagnosed with cancer in September and then passed away about 1 month later.  My husband told me that his work stability, and the rest of his local crew for that matter was not very stable.  I needed to find employment, like steady, full time employment.  And there were things, private challenges with my daughter.  So, as far as I was concerned, I had nothing left in me for anything else.  Just keeping it together in the storm was enough.  I told my husband I felt like I was in a storm, on the sea, holding onto the outside of the ship with my fingertips.  I really did feel like that.  I retreated into a corner and licked my wounds and my family’s wounds, not to mention my Mother.  Friends were awesome during my time of need.  Checking in with me.  Giving me empathy.  Consoling me.  Thank goodness for the comfort of friends and family.

So, here I am, in April, posting January and after that posting April because I made it to that meeting too.  Wahoo.  Thank Jan for keeping everyone up to speed on the Yahoo Group.  Go Jan!  You rock.  Your notes, so detailed.  Awesome!

I have no idea what Mary’s tip of the month was.  Sorry Mary.

Mary’s Tip of The Month

Steady Betty Pressing Board

I am starting a new feature in the meeting blog posts.  A share a video.  If you are on Youtube and find a great quilting video and would like to share it with the rest of use, let me know and I will post it here.

I found this video on how to decide on a quilting design.  It has some great pointers that I thought you all might find interesting.

And without further ado, the rest of the Tada Portion of last weeks meeting.  Apparently,  we have reached our quota in photos.  I had to go back and delete some photos, mostly duplicates.  Must research this a little more.

April 2016

This month Charlotte’s Mystery Quilt:  Scrappy Stars Around The Corner, was revealed.  Please go to her site, Scrapitude Quilts, to get the final clue, the tada moment.

You’ll notice that there is an alternating pattern.  That is in the last clue.

Here are the tada’s for last month.

This month’s block is the Right Hand of Friendship on p. 101 (Around The Block, Judy Hopkins).

Tip of the Month

Sherri showed us these window panes for fussy cutting fabric.  Make sure you dont use them as a ruler though, they are just for marking.

March 2016

WOW!  Its been since October that I was at a meeting.  Shiver me timbers!  Way too long.

Here is the pattern that I forgot to add that Sherry showed everyone.  Such cute bags. You Name It Gadet Bag

Kate’s Block of the Month

If you have missed meetings, the blocks come from the book, Around The Block, by Judy Hopkins.  If you would like to join in, by all means, buy the book and jump in.

The first block was the Ohio Star.

The second block was the Sawtooth Star.

The third is the Simplex Star.

The newest one, for the month of March is on page 106, its called Sarah’s Choice.

Quilt 5

Rules of the game:

  1.  You have to be a member of our guild.  But you folks out on the internet can certainly participate.
  2. Enter 5 projects, officially at the meeting that you will quilt.  These are basically tops that you have already completed.  You just need to quilt them.
  3.  The cost to enter is 5 fat quarters.  In January of 2017, there will be a drawing from the people who joined.  The winner (s) will receive fat quarters.
  4.  The size of the project doesn’t matter (a bit reluctant about writing that down).  Wall hangings on up.
  5. If you have a quilt top laying around that just needs borders, you can finish that up and then quilt that.
  6. All quilts must be done by December 31st, 2016.  They must be quilted, bound and labeled.  No rules about the quilting other than you have to do it yourself

Show and Tell Time!

Mary’s Two Quilts with Kim’s quilting have been entered into the Paducah Show.

CCQ Halloween Retreat

Halloween CCQ Retreat was a blast. It was wild!  Some of us got a little too wild.  A video of that event may be circulating.  I can not post it here, I really need to protect the innocent guilty.

I am sorry about my lack of coverage of all things made.  I think I might have been getting a little too wild myself.
It was so wild in fact that some people needed to recover as you can see.

The Ripper Witch

This was in the Silent Auction, I mean Jan Show, I mean Silent Auction. I really wanted it. Oh well, I guess I will have to make it…

Block of The Month

New Mystery Quilt

Scrappy Stars Around The Corner by our famous scrap quilter, Charlotte is the name of the new mystery scrap quilt.

Head off to Scrapitude Quilts for all the cutting instructions.

The Bag Exchange

Sadly, only two people participated in the bag exchange.  But for the people who did, Jan and Barb, they seemed to be on each others purse wave length and made each other the same bag!  What are the odds of that?

Here is the blow by blow of the bag exchange in pictures:

As a side note I recently found an article on the blog Quilt Skipper that I thought you might be interested in about Frixion Pens.  I wanted to share it with you.

Show and Tell

June Meeting 2015

A new committee was formed last month.  It is the Charity Committee.  Instead of focusing on one chairty we will divide our donations to a few different ones, rotating quarterly.  The current one is the Spencerport Food Shelf.  Anything is welcome at this time but there focus is on easy made kid food.  Please make sure the food you donate is not past the expiration date.

We started a new block of the month from Jan.  It was developed by her and Vicki  some time ago.  It is wall hanging size.

Charlotte and a few ladies- Kathy, Kate and Mary, showed there Scrap In A Box finishes.  Way to go ladies!

Linda B has her finished block of the month or row of the month wall hanging finished.

We had a First Place Winner from Genesee Valley Quilt Show. Mary, with Uncommon Friend. Way to go Mary (for piecing)! Way to go Kim (for quilting)
